# who already pays for the mekong rice field

*the operators are already in the field. the buyer of the harvest is the second layer.*

Mekong delta rice sourcing is a procurement ledger long before it is a climate slide.

If you buy winter–spring rice from the Vietnamese delta, you already pay farmers and millers for tonnes. Loc Troi Group said that by mid-April 2024 it had purchased more than 300,000 tonnes of Mekong Delta winter–spring rice for VND 2.5 trillion, in a May 2024 statement reported by Vietnam News. As of 14 May 2024, the company said it had exported nearly 100,000 tonnes for nearly US$63 million. Those figures are purchase and export accounting. They are not a price on the water held in the paddies or the soil under them.

The flooded fields, the water they hold, and the soil beneath them are there whether or not anyone buys a certificate. The methane credit is a different product. The river, as a whole, is a different subject. The people already in the field come first.

## who is already in the field

Green Carbon operates the hectares this series has named, develops the measurements, and sells the credit product. New Forests described about 8,000 ha in Can Tho as Green Carbon's current operations in a 2 September 2026 release—not a registry polygon. An Giang carried about 100 ha across three crop cycles in a finished demonstration on a 24 April 2025 page. Battambang's 2025 wet season covered 1,089.66 ha with 386 farmers on the Kamping Puoy scheme, with partners including the Royal University of Agriculture, Cambodia's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the provincial department, and water-user associations who schedule irrigation. Those three footprints are the same kind of rice field. They are not one merged hectare total.

Loc Troi appears on Green Carbon's 24 April 2025 page in connection with Japonica export quality. Loc Troi is not confirmed as the offtaker of the 8,000 ha, the 100 ha, or the 1,089.66 ha. The company buys delta rice at scale. That is not the same as owning the named project polygons.

On the Mekong places, the associations and the ministries already coordinate water and field work. New Forests signed a memorandum with Green Carbon; it has not deployed capital into these fields. Green Carbon stays the operator. New Forests is not the buyer of field condition. A ministry is not the buyer in this row.

Press around a 2024 Indonesia tender said the group had spoken of production links on 300,000 ha by 2030. That is a plan, not a field count. This offer is not sized to it.

## mekong delta rice sourcing and the second layer

Mekong delta rice sourcing ties your balance sheet to a plain that takes fresh Mekong water when the flow holds salt downstream. When the river runs low, salt comes up the same canals. During the 2023–24 dry season, Vietnam's Irrigation Department reported that around 73,900 households faced water shortages and more than 1,189 hectares of rice were damaged for lack of irrigation, as cited ahead of the 2024–25 dry season. That harm is what reaches the crop when fresh water does not. The rice you already buy still depends on those paddies holding water and soil in condition.

Farmers on the schemes depend on the schedule. Loc Troi depends on the harvest. The delta's eaters depend on the plain still producing. You already pay for tonnes. The second layer funds the water and soil the tonnes come from—beside the credit product, not instead of it, and not as a share of export revenue.

[Who depends on Mekong rice](/guide/who-depends-on-mekong-rice) names the same dependencies from the field outward. [A rice paddy is not a methane credit](/guide/a-rice-paddy-is-not-a-credit) keeps the living thing separate from the tonne someone else produces. [The salt that reaches the rice](/guide/the-salt-that-reaches-the-rice) holds the dry-season failure apart from this procurement story.

## one partnership, named

The buyer in the row is Loc Troi Group. The exposure is the purchase and export the company already reported in May 2024. The solutions are what appears on the corporations page: **supply chain resilience**, together with **restoration & stewardship** and **MRV & monitoring**. The work they fund is the water and soil of the delta paddies the harvest already comes from—the Can Tho operations as New Forests stated them, the An Giang demonstration, and the Battambang season—without merging the hectares and without claiming those polygons are Loc Troi's. The unit is one reportable partnership a year on the line `mekong rice` under [`water-abundance.ensurance`](/water-abundance.ensurance?from=guide), beside the rice Loc Troi already buys. It is not a share of the US$63 million export figure, and it is not a price per tonne we invent. The monitoring in that partnership is paddy water and soil. It is not a second methane tonne on Green Carbon's credit. The partnership does not buy the named project polygons, does not take their credit, and does not bill Green Carbon or the water-user associations for work they already do. Those hectares show the kind of field the harvest comes from.

Supply chain resilience is the corporations use case for a buyer whose sourcing map already runs through the delta. Restoration & stewardship and MRV & monitoring are the services on that page for work that can be reported beside procurement. Green Carbon keeps operating the cited hectares and selling the credit. The water-user associations at Kamping Puoy keep scheduling the water. This row does not invoice them for work they already do.

If you run procurement for a rice company, you already book tonnes and exports. A partnership a year records the paddy condition behind that ledger, in a unit a sustainability report can carry.

## the line beside the harvest

The line is `mekong rice`, in ideation under [`water-abundance.ensurance`](/water-abundance.ensurance?from=guide). The parent agent is live. The line is not minted yet. It is a line—funding on the paddy's water and soil—not a policy claiming title over the field.

Co-create it with us; a person reviews it; the parent agent receives.

[Co-create mekong rice →](/specific/create?mode=suggest&agent=water-abundance.ensurance&name=mekong%20rice&from=guide)

The line sits beside the rice Loc Troi already purchases. It does not replace Green Carbon's credit product, and it does not convert VND 2.5 trillion into a nature price. Food security can be an ownership question elsewhere; here the subject is the field's water and soil.

## frequently asked questions

### what does mekong delta rice sourcing fund beyond the invoice?

Tonnes and export dollars pay farmers and the chain. They do not, by themselves, fund the water held in the paddies or the soil condition behind the same harvest. The second layer is one reportable partnership a year on `mekong rice` under `water-abundance.ensurance`, through supply chain resilience with restoration & stewardship and MRV & monitoring, beside the rice Loc Troi already buys.

### is loc troi the offtaker of green carbon's named hectares?

No confirmation ties Loc Troi to the 8,000 ha in Can Tho, the 100 ha demonstration in An Giang, or the 1,089.66 ha Battambang season. The company is named for export quality on Green Carbon's April 2025 page and reports large delta purchases in May 2024. The offer funds paddy water and soil behind sourcing the group already does—not a claim on those project polygons.

### who keeps doing the field work?

Green Carbon operates the cited hectares and develops the credit. Water-user associations, universities, and ministries on the Mekong places already schedule and coordinate. New Forests has a memorandum and has not deployed capital. Residents and farmers can use the suggest door to help name the line. The corporations row is for the harvest buyer, with a unit and a door.

## from the plain

Can Tho is the door into a rice plain. The operators are already in the field. Loc Troi already pays for tonnes.
