# the account proposes. you confirm.

*an agent for a watershed can swap through 0x and earn usdc yield on an allowlist. it cannot borrow, and nothing moves until a person says yes.*

Yes, an AI agent can use DeFi, and on [**ensurance**](/?from=guide) the shape is narrow on purpose. On 12 October 2026, an agent's chat can propose two kinds of move on Base: a token swap routed through 0x, or a USDC deposit or withdraw on one of four allowlisted venues. Each proposal arrives as a card. Nothing moves until a person confirms it.

A watershed keeps working whether or not anyone holds a certificate. Ensurance gives that living system an account. DeFi is one set of tools that account can call.

That order matters for everything below. The watershed is the reason the account exists. The account is where money can be held for the place and moved on its behalf. A swap or a yield venue is a tool the account can reach for, the way a land trust keeps its operating cash in a bank it did not build.

This is a how-to for land stewards and regional collaboratives who run an account like that, or are thinking about it. It covers what you can ask, what the card shows, what happens when you confirm, and what stays off.

If you came looking for an agent that chases a rate while nobody is watching, close this tab. That is not what this is. The account proposes. A person confirms.

## what an account can call today

Two kinds of move are wired into the chat as of 12 October 2026. Both run on Base. The swap is routed by 0x. The yield calls are built in the app's own code as plain contract calls, with no Morpho SDK and no outside vault product in between.

The first is a swap. The app asks 0x for a quote, and 0x finds the route across liquidity on Base. Both tokens have to be ones the app can resolve from its own catalog or allowlist. A token it cannot find gets an error, not a card, though a token on Base can be added to that list by contract address, subject to admin review.

The second is USDC yield on a closed list. An account can deposit USDC into, or withdraw it from, exactly four venues:

| venue, as the card shows it | curator | how it holds the USDC |
|---|---|---|
| `steakhouse high yield usdc` | Steakhouse Financial | Morpho vault |
| `steakhouse prime usdc` | Steakhouse Financial | Morpho vault |
| `gauntlet usdc prime` | Gauntlet | Morpho vault |
| `aave usdc` | Aave | Aave V3 pool |

An address that is not on this list cannot be deposited to. The agent cannot add a fifth venue because someone in the chat asks for one, and neither can a visitor. Changing the list is a change to the code, and a person reviews it.

An ensurance agent can propose a swap through 0x or a USDC deposit on four named venues on Base, and a person has to confirm each card before anything moves. That is the whole surface today.

## step 1: open the agent's chat and ask

Sign in on ensurance.app with the wallet that controls the account. Open the chat with the agent you steward in focus. Then ask the plain question: what can this account swap or earn on Base?

Signed in, the agent answers from the same list above. The list is public, and it is printed here. Building a proposal needs a wallet. If you are not signed in, the agent says so instead of drawing a card.

Then ask for a specific move, in your own words. Swap 50 USDC for ETH. Put 200 USDC in Gauntlet USDC prime. Take 200 USDC back out of Aave USDC. Name the account if it is not the agent you are talking to, so the proposal does not guess.

If the account does not hold enough for the move, the agent tells you the shortfall. You get a sentence, not a card.

## step 2: read the card

When the move is allowed, a card appears in the chat. For a deposit or a withdraw, it names the venue, the amount, and the account the money comes from. It also shows the share you would receive and a time after which the card expires.

For a swap, the card shows what you spend, what you receive, the rate 0x quoted, and the account that pays. The in-app swap fee is 1%, taken in the token you buy, and it is already inside that quote.

Read the account line twice. An agent's account is its own address, separate from your personal wallet. If the card says it will spend from an account you did not mean, do not confirm. Ask again and name the right one.

One account is refused outright for yield. If the source would be the protocol's own wallet, the app does not build a deposit or withdraw card at all. Protocol wallets cannot park yield. These tools are for an account with a mandate, not for the house.

## step 3: confirm, or let it lapse

The card is a proposal. Nothing moves before a person presses confirm. When they do, the wallet that controls the account signs, and the transaction goes out on Base. If no one confirms, the card expires and nothing happens.

A deposit gives the account a share in that venue. A vault share is not a certificate. It does not fund a place, carry a mandate, or say anything about the watershed. It is a claim on USDC held by that venue, and it carries that venue's risk.

A withdraw goes back to the same account. Ask for the same venue and an amount, and the card sends USDC to the account that holds the share. It does not route to a different wallet on the way out.

If the chat shows a figure that a venue publishes about what it pays, that figure is the venue's, not ours. It moves, and it is not a promise. We do not quote one here, and the app does not promise one.

## what stays off

Some things are not on the menu, and the menu is the point.

[The token is the holding](/guide/the-token-is-the-holding?from=guide) covers the stock loop on Base and why a certificate on a forest is not that kind of collateral. Here the answer is short. Borrowing against a coin or a certificate is not available.

The rest of the fence is just as plain. There is no venue outside the four. There is no deposit from the protocol wallet. There is no move from the chat without a yes. The agent can explain, suggest, and draw a card. It does not send money from the chat on its own.

That limit is the feature. A steward or a collaborative can let an agent do the reading and the arithmetic, and keep the signature with a person who answers for the place.

## why the account exists

Go back to the watershed. A creek, a valley, a basin with seven states and a delta. It filters, stores, and releases water whether or not anyone opens a chat. The account exists so that money meant for that living system has somewhere to sit and a rule for how it moves.

Swapping into the token a partner wants to be paid in is housekeeping. So is parking idle USDC on a named venue between disbursements. Neither is the work. The work is the place.

[From the pipe back to the river](/guide/from-the-pipe-back-to-the-river?from=guide) turns to one river account and what a person who controls an account like it can confirm. The series starts at [defi might just save refi](/guide/defi-might-just-save-refi?from=guide), which explains why these pipes matter to a watershed at all.

## frequently asked

### can an ai agent use defi?

Yes, inside limits a person keeps. On ensurance, as of 12 October 2026, an agent can propose a swap through 0x or a USDC deposit or withdraw on four allowlisted venues on Base. It cannot send any of them. A person confirms each card.

### can my agent borrow against its coin or certificate?

No. Borrowing against a coin or a certificate is not available.

### what happens if nobody confirms the card?

Nothing. The card expires and no transaction is sent. Ask again when you are ready, and the agent draws a fresh card with a fresh quote.
