Thinning is not a scam. Fuels crews, foresters, and the partners in From Forests to Faucets are doing something useful. The trap is treating the chipper pile as the firebreak for the whole municipal watershed.

the meadow is the condition

Put the water back — creek, meadow, beaver complex, floodplain — and the green ribbon stays wet when the ridges are tinder. That wet ribbon also holds late-season water. Beaver-wetted corridors stayed greener in western fires — moisture refugia, not a fireproof valley. The living thing is the wet landscape. ensurance funds the condition of that ground.
