# five firsts. one of each.

*how to take a position, by ticket, and the five things nobody has done yet*

There are four ways in by ticket size, plus a route for builders, and five things nobody has done yet. This post is the practical end of the series: how to take a position, what you get for it, and what we are looking for right now.

**How to invest in natural capital** has had several honest answers: working land through a manager, conservation funds, easements, mitigation banking. The watersheds, forests, soils and reefs under every holding keep working whether or not anyone titles them. [*Ensurance*](/specific?from=guide) adds another: fund the living system itself at a named place, at any ticket size, with the funding recorded on a public ledger. It is not the place, and it is not advice; it is a set of doors.

:::johnson
**the first name on the ledger is still open.** — Five firsts, one of each. Each is a single conversation, and each is recorded onchain as the first of its kind, under the name that took it.

## get in, by ticket

What a certificate carries, at the unit price: direct funding to the named place, the published value account on that place, the condition and evidence record, your name on the first funding of it in the public ledger, and a record you can cite. All of that for a mint price under one dollar a unit, in any quantity.

- **Under US$50,000: this afternoon.** Mint certificates at [specific ensurance](/specific?from=guide) or buy coins at [general ensurance](/general?from=guide) from any Base wallet. Or ask us to route a split across the places you name.
- **US$50,000 to US$250,000: one call.** A split across named places on a theme (water, wildfire, corridor, a basin), configured for you, recorded onchain under your wallet address; first is first only for places not already funded, and the ledger shows which.
- **US$250,000 to US$1 million: the first institutional line.** One line, one theme, many places, your name first on each.
- **US$1 million and up: a structure.** Finance a parcel's cost toward permanent protection, seed the first thematic nature vault, or make the market in ENSURE pairs to seed depth. Bespoke, documented with BASIN.
- **Builders and agents: no call needed.** Connect the MCP server at `https://ensurance.app/api/mcp` or the CLI (`@ensurance/cli` on npm) and take a position from your own wallet. [The account proposes, you confirm](/guide/the-account-proposes-you-confirm?from=guide) shows the verbs; `/llms.txt` lists every public read.

A certificate is not an easement and does not protect land in law; it funds a named place and records who funded it, and that takes a wallet and thirty seconds. Unit prices are fixed and lines are open edition, so the first ticket and the hundredth enter at the same price; what differs is the order on the ledger.

## five firsts. one of each.

1. **The first institutional line.** US$250,000 to US$1 million on water or wildfire, split across named places. You name the basin; we deliver the dependency map, the instrument and the ledger.
2. **The first nature vault.** One curator to co-design a vault holding certificates and coins on a theme with idle USDC in a listed lending vault. We have the primitives and the valuation method; you have the distribution.
3. **The first lender criteria.** One lending protocol or risk curator to publish what a certificate or coin would need to be admitted as collateral: oracle, depth, floor. We will build to the list.
4. **The first market maker.** Seed ENSURE pairs to the protocol's published threshold, US$25,000 of pooled liquidity and US$250 a day. You are the liquidity of record for the asset class.
5. **The first data center.** One operator to ensure the watershed under its facility and say so. The water, the power and the chips depend on it; the certificate makes the dependency legible.

No lender, vault or market maker has listed or endorsed an ensurance instrument. [The cavalry is not coming](/guide/the-cavalry-is-not-coming?from=guide) explains why the protocol makes the first bid itself and why the second one matters more.

Picture the 2031 filing. The watershed under your three largest holdings, ensured in 2026, named in the report, with the ledger showing you were first. A peer who follows can reference the template. Or picture the vault page in 2028: the first nature underlying on your platform, with your published criteria on the record. That is what the first ticket buys that the hundredth cannot.

## where we are, plainly

This is early, and we would rather you hear it from us than find it. On 5 November 2026 the protocol reported about US$37,000 ensured at current mint prices, pooled ENSURE liquidity under US$100, daily volume in the tens of dollars, 3,794 holder positions across the coins, and no financial distribution yet paid to a certificate holder. The certificate exchange floor is built and switched off until it is funded. No lender lists an instrument as collateral and no oracle prices one. Contracts are deployed and administered by BASIN Natural Capital in Colorado; the legal character of the certificate is undetermined; a DUNA governance layer is proposed, not formed. A certificate is not a deed, a security interest, an offset or a credit, and no token can be redeemed into land. All protocol figures are self-reported through the public API and unaudited; the live read is at `/api/protocol/stats`.

That is also the point. The rails are institutional, the underlying is the oldest asset there is, and the market between them is empty. It will not stay empty. The first name on the ledger is still open.

This post is research and an invitation, not an offer, a solicitation or investment, legal or tax advice. Obtain your own.

## next step

Send one line with your seat and the first you want: [contact](/contact?from=guide&topic=long-the-source). BASIN is taking meetings around Digital Asset Summit London and the Ethereum Institutional Forum, in person where the diary allows, otherwise by phone or after.

## frequently asked

### how do you invest in natural capital?

Through working land (timberland, farmland, conservation funds) with a manager, or directly, by funding the living system at a named place. On ensurance that means minting a certificate in USDC on Base at a fixed unit price, in any quantity, or financing a parcel's cost toward permanent protection under its own real-property documents. The funding is recorded on a public ledger under your name.

### what is the smallest ticket?

One certificate, under a dollar, from any Base wallet. Unit prices are fixed and lines are open edition, so a sovereign fund and a student enter at the same price. What differs is the order on the ledger.

### who is the counterparty?

A mint is a transaction with the certificate contract on Base; USDC goes to the recipient published for that token id, configured by BASIN Natural Capital, the contract's creator and administrator.
